Hardware Chess Pieces

Here's another to file under "Answers in the Everyday". The nifty folks over at Make Magazine recently posted this about Julia Suits' chess pieces made from common items found at your local hardware store.

There are three reasons why I like this creation. First, she came up with this simply as a result of wandering around and wondering about in the hardware store. Secondly, she found an answer in the everyday and added some whimsy to the rather stoic game of chess. Lastly, the former purpose of nuts, bolts, and washers has now been expanded to include game playing instruments.

What could you repurpose today as a toy?
